An elementary school in Cork City confirmed today that someone within the school community has contracted Covid-19.

Scoil Bhríde, Eglantine at Douglas Road sent an email to parents this morning to inform them of the development.

In a letter shared by Red FM Cork, Principal Eoin Kennedy assured parents that the school would remain open as usual.

He told the parents of the boys at the girls’ school that he had already contacted those concerned by phone this morning.

The letter reads “I wish to inform you that we have a confirmed case of Covid-19 within our school community.

“I have been engaging with the local Cork teams of the National Public Health team. I have contacted all relevant families at this time as reported to me.

“If I have not contacted you by phone, send your daughter to school as usual tomorrow.

“Or the school will be open for all classes as usual.”

Cork joins the growing list of counties that have reported school cases.

Three schools in Dublin, two in Kerry, one in Clare and one in Meath have had to inform parents that a case has been confirmed in the school community.

This week is the first time all elementary and middle school students have returned to their desks since March.
