Some reaction now from students who are disappointed with the calculated grades they have received.
I got an h4 in English after getting h3 / 2s in all my pre-tests at the end of the year :)) I needed h3 to get into my course, so :)) # LeavingCert2020

A more political reaction, or rather advice, when Sinn Féin education spokesperson Donnchadh Ó’Laoghaire sends a message to students.
Best wishes to him # LeavingCert2020 class with your results today.
We hope you get what you expect, but always remember that there are many routes to achieving what you want to achieve: @Donnchadhol pic.twitter.com/d2MLdQClxt

There are those who wake up at dawn on the day of the Leaving Cert results, nervous with anticipation … and then there is Jorge’s little brother.
LC results.
My little brother? Fast asleep. Mom doesn’t want to wake him up. He’s literally so relaxed he’s lying down– Jorge Conejo (@bignicnergy) September 7, 2020

It is difficult to measure so far the level of disappointment or joy among students arising from the calculated grading system.
We will certainly have a better idea of how things have gone in the next hour.
Just to point out, yes I did get over 500 points and it looks like I will get my place at Trinity but I was not expecting more than 500, they have clearly upped everyone by a grade or two. # LeavingCert2020

It has been 40 minutes since students began receiving their calculated scores for Leaving Cert 2020. There is certainly much relief, hopefully not many disappointed.

Let’s go back to Education Minister Norma Foley for a moment.
When asked if teachers destroyed supporting documentation to help them reach their calculated grade, Foley told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that teachers had to fill out two forms where they highlighted evidence from where they got their grade information.
“All of that information is available and retained in the schools and will be available for the appeals process. Certainly Form A and Form B [that teachers fill in] it is kept inside the school, ”Foley said this morning.
When asked why students did not receive teacher-assessed grades today to ensure transparency, Foley said, “The focus today is on the calculated grades that are given to students. It is preventive to adjudicate what the demand [for CAO points] It will be on Friday.
“Students who wish to appeal their Calculated Grade can do so starting next Monday, September 14, where they will be able to access their grade evaluated by the teacher before standardization.

Do we have time for another politician’s LC shout? Of course we do.
Here is the Minister for Children, Roderic O’Gorman, who praises the “incredible resilience” of young people in Ireland.
Best of luck to everyone who received your Leaving Cert results today. This year’s class has faced school closings, lockdowns, and separation from friends and family. Regardless of the results, it is important that we recognize the incredible resilience of young people in Ireland.

Without him for Sam O’Gara, who has just received his calculated grades. He seems quite pleased that everything is ready and dusted.
# LeavingCert2020 Happy with my results, some subjects were a bit generous in my grade, others I know I could have done better, but I’m still happy. Stress levels have been high for a few days.

Wise words from Órla on the day of the Leaving Cert results.
The day I got my Leaving Cert results was one of the worst, as the reality of not being able to afford my ‘dream’ course came home. 8 years later, I found a greater love and am in the middle of a PhD in it! There are ALWAYS alternative options and routes! # LeavingCert2020

Well it looks like the portal where students log in to receive their calculated grades briefly crashed, but now it’s working again!
And the website has crashed! What a surprise! @ Education_Ire # LeavingCert2020

As students begin to receive their results, Children’s Ombudsman Dr. Niall Muldoon has a message for the class of 2020.
“I hope you get what you want; however, if not, remember that there are still many opportunities,” he says.

More good wishes from politicians, anyone?
This time it is the Minister of Justice, Helen McEntee. She tells the class of 2020 to “whatever happens today, be proud of yourselves.”
For the Leaving Cert class of 2020.
This year has been a year like no other, but you have proven to be strong, resilient, caring and compassionate young people. No matter what happens today, be proud of yourself. Good luck to all of you this morning. # LC2020– Helen McEntee TD (@HMcEntee) September 7, 2020

Speaking this morning, Foley said, “Teachers will award the best grade on the best day with the best questions for their students.”
The Minister said that this means that teachers are good at assessing the ranking order of a student within a class, but this does not allow for a benchmark comparison among students across the country.

Back to the Minister of Education now.
Norma Foley has said that the algorithm for this year’s calculated scores will be released after 9 a.m. today.
The Minister also says that there will be an opportunity for Leaving Cert students to review their calculated grades a second time.

Normally it is a day of good wishes from politicians … and today it does not seem any different even though this is a day of results like no other.
Higher Education Minister Simon Harris says the Class of 2020 has “demonstrated a resilience that would put many of us to shame.”
# Classof2020, there are no words that do justice to your year. A global pandemic and no traditional tests. Virtual graduation, canceled debts, last months of studies at home. Whatever her grades, she has demonstrated a resilience that would put many of us to shame. The best is ahead. Go for it!

Good morning and welcome to Leaving Cert 2020 results day. Cónal Thomas keeps you up-to-date with the latest news all morning.
Education Minister Norma Foley, who spoke on Morning Ireland in the closing minutes, said she has “full confidence” that students will be happy when the CAO points are released on Friday.
Foley says the predicted grade system used this year was “gender blind” and insists that a school’s location was also not used in profiling.
