Leaving Cert’s results to be issued tomorrow amid concerns about ratings inflation

Thousands of Leaving Cert students are reminded to have their test numbers and PPS close at hand, as calculated scores will be available online starting at 9 am tomorrow morning.

Results will be posted through the non-traditional form of a student portal website, and offers from the CAO will be posted at the end of the week on Friday.

It comes as the Leaving Cert system was restructured this year, as students were unable to sit for traditional exams due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The National Parent Council is launching a helpline so that interested students, parents, or guardians can phone for counseling over the next ten days.

Former National Guidance Counselor Institute President Betty McLoughlin said she will be led by professionals: “They will run a helpline staffed by qualified Guidance Counselors Institute for parents or students to call their queries “.

Appeals

Any student who is not satisfied with his grade will be able to see the one provided by his teacher, before the Department of Education submitted it to the standardization system.

The recent government decision to remove a school’s previous academic performance from its standardization process is expected to result in higher grades for many students and an increase in CAO points for third-level courses.

The results are expected to drive a point increase at colleges that will leave some students disappointed, as there are also concerns that the change could put CAO applicants from previous years at a disadvantage.

1,250 additional college places will be made available in an attempt to offset grade-level inflation.

Students can also choose to take the exams in November and choose the better of their two results.

Ms. McLoughlin said students should wait until the CAO offers are posted before worrying too much: “I’d say look and see what the offers are, there are additional places in the system, 1,200 additional offering places in the CAO system and just hang in there and wait and see hopefully until Thursday, until the CAO offers are released. “

Students, parents, and guardians can contact the Guidance Counselors’ toll-free helpline at 1800 265 165 beginning at 11 a.m.
