Former Cork County Councilor Kevin Conway passed away today at Cork University Hospital.
Mr. Conway worked tirelessly for his community in Blarney for over thirty years and served as president of the Blarney Community Council.
He ran as an independent candidate in the 2011 general elections.
He will be remembered for his work on the resurrection of the Blarney St. Patrick’s Day parade, which returned in 2010.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Cork County Council Mayor Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley said she was “saddened to learn of the untimely passing” of her former colleague. She and Kevin were elected to the council together. He had been “a great support to [her] At that time”.
An online condolence book will open on Monday and will be available at yourcouncil.ie.
The proud man in the community had been suffering from multiple myeloma and underwent a stem cell transplant last year. From his hospital ward in Cork, he ran for local elections.
Kevin is survived by his wife Bernadette, their four children, and his mother, Mary.
