Graham Cummins has confirmed his retirement as a professional footballer tonight.
The 32-year-old’s third spell with Cork City ended yesterday, and he announced his decision to end the day on Twitter.
“I reached a stage in my life where I had to think about a career in addition to being a footballer,” he wrote.
Cummins also had two seasons with Waterford, starting this season’s Irish League campaign at the RSC before returning to Turners Cross in July.
He played this season on defense, though he spent the rest of his career, including spells at Preston, St Johnstone and Shamrock Rovers, playing up front.
His last game for City came at the FAI Cup last month, where he was sent off in his win over Longford Town.
Coach Neale Fenn announced on Friday that the club and the player had decided to go their separate ways.
“Obviously Graham came back in the summer, but he’s struggled with some bumps and discomfort,” he told CorkCityFC.ie.
“We had a chat about it and agreed that it will move forward. We would like to thank Graham for his contribution while he was here, and we wish him the best of luck for the future.”
