Arsenal have announced that Dani Ceballos has rejoined the club on a loan from Real Madrid for one season.

The Spanish midfielder scored two goals in 36 appearances for the Gunners last season, helping Mikel Arteta’s team win the FA Cup after joining on a temporary contract in July 2019.

He impressed enough that Arteta wanted him to return to the Emirates Stadium and, with much competition for places at Real, Ceballos has once again opted to spend the season in North London.

Arteta said: “Dani was an integral part of our team last season and finished the season in excellent shape.

“I love Dani’s passion and commitment and he is a very skilled player. We are delighted to welcome you back and look forward to seeing you pick up where you left off. “

Despite belated interest from former club Real Betis, it always seemed likely that the 24-year-old Ceballos would be willing to play in the Premier League again.

He posted on social media his support for Arsenal during their penalty shootout win over Liverpool at the Community Shield last week.

Ceballos will not be available for the season opener against newly promoted Fulham, as he will have to remain in quarantine for 14 days under UK coronavirus rules.

The loan of Ceballos comes after Willian’s previous free transfer from Chelsea and the arrival of defender Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.
