Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Man Utd CEO Ed Woodward some transfer advice after José Mourinho left them in trouble for Alexis Sánchez, according to reports.

Sánchez joined Man Utd in a partial trade deal from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way. But the forward fought immensely at Old Trafford with Mourinho, scoring just five goals for the club in 45 appearances.

The Chilean also initially struggled at Inter Milan with Antonio Conte, but played more games towards the end of the season, scoring four and assisting eight in 22 Serie A games, a much more successful comeback than during his time in Old Trafford.

His form convinced the Italian giants to sign him on a free transfer this summer, but only after Man Utd had reportedly paid £ 9 million to terminate his contract.

Sánchez’s salary at Man Utd was around £ 500,000 a week after the bonuses and now Solskjaer insists the club will never find itself in the same position.

ESPN says Solskjaer has told Woodward “to value locker room harmony over the transfer business as the club continues to grapple with the aftermath of Alexis Sánchez’s disastrous play.”

The Norwegian has a “desire that United no longer give in to exorbitant salary demands” and Donny van de Beek’s “willingness to fit into the existing salary structure” is a big part of why the transfer was resolved so quickly.

The report added that when he joined in December 2018, Solskjaer “ found that Sanchez’s deal had caused problems in the dressing room as other players sought to measure his value and importance against the club’s main source of income. ”

Solskjaer is “willing to lose targets if it means keeping his current squad happy” with Woodward backing his stance.
