The Garda has issued a new appeal for information on the 21st anniversary of the murder of a Dublin teenager.

Raonaid Murray, 17, was last seen alive at approximately 11:20 pm on Friday, September 3, 1999, while on her way home from downtown Dun Laoghaire.

His body was found in Silchester Crescent, Glenageary at 12:33 am on Saturday, September 4.

They found her less than 500 yards from her home.

In a statement, the Garda said that many of those who were then the same age as the teenager are now parents.

“We ask you to reflect now with the benefit of maturity and hindsight on any information that may be helpful for research,” they said.

“Although a large number of suspects have been identified during the course of this investigation, there are actually no prime suspects.

“The lack of a prime suspect is largely due to the fact that no motive has been identified in this case. In more than 4,500 witness statements there is not a word of enmity towards Raonaid.

“If anyone has any information that can help identify the motive for Raonaid’s murder and / or if anyone has any doubts about the veracity of an alibi already provided, we request your immediate assistance.

“It is possible that, without knowing it, he is protecting a murderer.

“The resolution of this murder is of the highest priority for An Garda Siochana and any information received will be treated with absolute confidentiality.

“The Garda research team wishes to once again thank the public for the invaluable assistance provided in this ongoing investigation to date.”
