Young delivery cyclist who died after a horrific nighttime collision in the city of Dublin named

A tragic young cyclist struck in a nighttime crash and hit-and-run in Dublin city on Monday died.

Thiago Cortes succumbed to his catastrophic injuries Tuesday night.

The Brazilian was making deliveries for Deliveroo when he was shot down and seriously injured on North Wall Quay around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

A vigil has been organized at the Spire for 5pm Wednesday night for Thiago, who was 20 years old and leaving his wife, family and friends behind.

A car that Gardai believes was involved in the incident was recovered in Castleforbes Square a short time later.

A Garda search is now underway to find the occupants of the vehicle involved.

North Wall Quay was closed to traffic for hours when several An Garda Siochana units invaded the area which was examined by forensics.

A source told Dublin Live that “four people were understood to have fled the scene” following the incident.

They added: “Shortly after the accident, a search was carried out on nearby Castleforbes Road and the scene was sealed.”

Many on social media reported the deafening sirens filling the air as the Garda helicopter hovered over the city center for several hours.

Gardai issued an updated appeal for information after news of Thiago’s death was confirmed.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí on Store Street is renewing its appeal to witnesses following a serious collision involving a cyclist and a car in Dublin on Monday 31st August 2020.

“A cyclist in his 20s who was taken by ambulance from the scene in serious condition died of his injuries at Mater Hospital on September 2, 2020.

“Gardaí is renewing its appeal to witnesses and, in particular, to anyone found in the area of ​​North Wall Quay, North Wall Avenue, East Wall Road, Sheriff Street Upper, Castleforbes Road or Castleforbes Square between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 pm to introduce themselves.

“They are also attractive to road users with camera images (including dash cam) of the area at the time to be available to them.”
