A second primary school in Dublin has been forced to send a class home following confirmation of a positive Covid-19 test.
The Lucan Community National School informed parents by email Tuesday that there was a confirmed case and that a Public Health Risk Assessment had been conducted on the advice of the Medical Health Officer.
It is the second national school in the capital that has been forced to send a class home due to the killer virus, Dublin Live revealed exclusively this morning.
Yesterday, Holy Family National School in Rathcoole confirmed to Dublin Live that they had been affected by the first case of Covid-19 in Irish classrooms since they reopened last week.
The West Dublin School declined to comment when contacted by Dublin Live.
It is not known whether the person contracted the virus inside or outside of school.
The Lucan CNS principal confirmed that all close contacts had been identified and told the parents that if they did not receive a letter from the HSE, their child or children should attend school normally this morning.
The classroom in question has been thoroughly cleaned following the confirmed case, and lessons for students are expected to take place online over the next fortnight.
The director added that situations like this would be “the new normal” admitting that “cases like today are going to happen”, but urged parents to remain calm to maintain a sense of normality in their children.
The email, seen by Dublin Live, to Lucan CNS’s parents reads: “We received a notification from the HSE East Department of Public Health today that there was a confirmed case of Covid-19 associated with the school and, as a result, a Se has conducted a Health Risk Assessment that has informed the additional actions of the Medical Health Officer.
“All close contacts at the school have been identified and are being contacted and notified of next steps.
“If you haven’t received a letter from the HSE, your child should attend school normally tomorrow.
“Situations like these are going to be the new normal and cases like today are going to happen. Rest assured that the school continues to follow all safety protocols and routines in accordance with the Department’s Back-to-School Framework and the NPHET guidelines, which are designed to minimize the risk of the virus entering the school and the consequent risk of its spread. We continue to need your support in adhering to new school safety routines and procedures and in following school safety guidelines. HSE health “.
The principal added: “We understand that such situations can be unsettling, but we urge you to remain calm and continue as normal, it is important that our children maintain that sense of normalcy and continued participation in their learning.
“It is important to note that at this juncture, patient confidentiality is paramount: the school and staff are required to follow the HSE’s instructions regarding all information released to the school community and cannot discuss beyond Information authorized for release by HSE.
