A British woman died on the Greek island of Corfu after being run over by a boat that was towing a water skier.
The body of the 60-year-old woman was discovered near Avlaki Beach, in the northeast of the island, on Monday morning.
The Greek Coast Guard said the woman’s body “showed obvious signs of having been hit by a ship’s propeller.”
A post-mortem examination revealed that he had died of hemorrhage and multiple injuries.
The Corfu Central Port Authority is conducting an investigation into his death.
A spokeswoman for the Commonwealth and Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman after her death in Corfu and our staff are in contact with the Greek police.”
“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
Local media reported that the woman was hit by a speedboat that was towing a water skier and the boat escaped and was later found abandoned.
Other unconfirmed reports say that three British men whose families have property in Corfu have been questioned about the death.
The woman has yet to be named by island officials.
