The father of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has called his son’s impending move to Man Utd a “dream come true”, with the Dutchman set to sign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

Today’s reports claim that Van de Beek had passed a medical examination prior to a £ 40 million move to Old Trafford, with personal terms also agreed.

The 23-year-old helped the Amsterdam team reach the semi-finals of last year’s Champions League and has been linked to a variety of high-profile moves.

And the father of the Dutch international, Andre, explains how he chose Man Utd over several other clubs.

“This is a dream come true. Our local village is very proud, ”said Van de Beek Snr (via Daily express) from his hometown of Kijkerkerveen.

“It is the perfect time for him to take this step towards such a beautiful club, but Ajax will always remain in our hearts. In principle, we never end there.

“Ten years playing there wouldn’t have been a punishment, so you wouldn’t have listened to Donny either. But at some point it is time to look further.

“Many clubs were interested, but Donny made this decision himself.”

At Old Trafford, he added: “We look around us. It’s nice.”
