Good first-half performance sees Bohs beating Cabinteely

Teenager Dawson Devoy provided two quality assists as the Bohemians had too much for First Division Cabinteely at Dalymount Park to comfortably book their ticket to the last eight of the Extra.ie FAI Cup.

With nine changes since his Europa League penalty shoot-out loss to Fehérvár in Budapest last Thursday, Bohemians manager Keith Long showed the depth of his squad against promotion hopefuls his father-in-law achieved by accumulating a sixth consecutive national victory.

Pat Devlin’s visitors were concerned early on, Promise Omochere brought in a comfortable save from Corey Chambers before Dinny Corcoran really should have put the locals ahead in eight minutes.

JJ Lunney’s sublime diagonal ball caught the great forward’s career. And even offside and with plenty of time, Chambers easily took care of Corcoran’s weak effort.

Cabinteely worked hard to admirably try to make his way into the game with Keith Dalton attacking from the right to close off a wide shot in 18 minutes.

But most of the defense had to be done at the other end and only in the 23rd minute, when the Bohemians opened for the visitors.

Lunney was the architect again, sliding a delightful pass down the inner right channel for Corcoran’s run. And though he slipped the ball past goalkeeper Chambers, Lloyd Buckley ran back to clear the line.

Moments later, Chambers came down well to save Corcoran’s shot from the edge of the box before dumping a headbutt from hometown captain Michael Barker as the pressure on his goal mounted.

And it finally counted in 32 minutes when the Bohemians deservedly took the lead.

Omochere’s neat shot gave the hosts the advantage

Center defender James Finnerty’s long ball down the right found Devoy. The cool-headed 18-year-old schemer deftly cut off his left foot to cross for Omochere to score with a good shot as he swept the ball past Chambers.

But locals were caught napping three minutes later when Cabinteely came close to leveling.

Midfielder Alex Aspil doubled with Marty Waters to get behind the Bohs defense and make a save by James Talbot.

It didn’t matter, as the Bohemians doubled their lead five minutes before the break.

Once again, the impressive Devoy was the instigator of the assist, curling over a center with his left foot for Corcoran, who arrived to pass the ball over Chambers.

The chances were less in a less frantic second half, although Omochere should have scored again, once again primed by Devoy, only to fire his advance over the top just before the hour mark.
