Yet another Dublin bar association has made the very difficult decision to close its doors for the foreseeable as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
Zozimus Bar in Anne’s Lane announced the sudden news on its Instagram over the weekend stating that it was not “feasible” to reopen safely at this time.
The popular hotspot said it would remain closed “until further notice” thanking customers for their support during what is its most difficult time in Dublin.
Their statement reads: “In light of the current climate in Dublin City, we deeply regret to inform you that Zozimus Bar will be closed until further notice.
“The safety of our customers and staff has always been our priority and although we have attempted to reopen safely, it is unfortunately not possible at this time.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support and patience. We can’t wait to welcome you through our doors once the time is right. Please stay safe.”
Over the weekend, publican groups warned of an “apocalyptic scenario” for Ireland’s pubs with up to two-thirds facing permanent closure for Christmas as the pandemic continues to devastate commerce.
The Vintners Federation of Ireland has said that after six months of closure, thousands of pubs that were already struggling to maintain their business are on the brink of complete closure.
VFI Chief Executive Padraig Cribben says the support offered by the state is as negligible as he warned this morning that around two-thirds of Ireland’s pubs are on the edge of the abyss and could close before Christmas.

State aid announced for pubs during the week amounts to € 16 million in various measures.
However, the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) and Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) reacted to the Government package for pubs, saying: “We ask for support, not sympathy and the Government has given us crumbs.”
