One of more than 200 people who were told to self-isolate after 16 coronavirus cases were linked to passengers aboard a flight from Zante said “no distance was imposed” on the plane.

Of those COVID-19 cases that have been linked to people on board the flight from Tui to Cardiff on August 25, seven were infectious or potentially infectious during flightaccording to Dr. Gwen Lowe, a communicable disease control consultant at Public Health Wales.

He said there have been around 30 cases in Welsh in the last week they have returned from the Greek island, having been infected on different flights and staying in different locations.

The whole flight to Cardiff told him to isolate himself

Stephanie Whitfield was on Flight 6215 from Tui to Cardiff on Tuesday and described how passengers were not wearing masks properly.

Speaking to Sky News, he said that “there was not much social distancing” on the flight and that “people did not seem to be very well educated in the use of masks.”

She continued: “We had people with masks under their noses, under their chin.

“People took off their masks to talk to other people and others took off their masks to walk the hallways and talk to other people, so it wasn’t great, to be honest.”

Ms. Whitfield said that she has been experiencing some mild COVID-19 symptoms since returning from her vacation.

“I had a mild cough, sore throat, it could just be a cold and I hope that’s the case,” he added.

Speaking of the flight, Ms. Whitfield said: “I was hoping there would be some kind of distance between people, but there wasn’t. No distance was applied.”

Ms. Whitfield believes that the tests at airports: that Heathrow bosses have been pressuring the government to adopt – “It would be a very good idea” to prevent this type of situation from happening in the future.

“Seeing that people did not wear masks or were not educated in the use of masks, my husband and I decided to isolate ourselves for two weeks, regardless of the advice of the government before the news was known,” she said.

Tui said wearing masks is a condition of transportation on all their flights and that they should be worn unless they consume food and drink, or if a passenger has a medical exemption.

A spokeswoman for the airline said she is “concerned to hear Ms Whitfield’s claims.”

She added: “Our crew is trained to the highest standards and in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

“Passengers are informed before travel and by in-flight public address announcements that they must wear masks at all times and are not allowed to move around the cabin. Masks can only be removed when consuming food and beverages.

“A full investigation is underway, as these concerns were not reported during the flight or before today.”
