No new coronavirus-related deaths have been reported today, and NPHET has confirmed 42 cases of COVID-19, a number far fewer than the rest of this week.
There have now been a total of 28,760 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ireland, and the coronavirus pandemic has claimed 1,777 lives.
Even though the number of daily cases has started to increase dramatically once again in recent days, it has been more than a week since a death due to the disease was reported.
The validation of the data in the HPSC has resulted in the denotification of 2 confirmed cases, which is reflected in the national total.
At least one of the cases reported today is in Galway, as NPHET has said 12 cases are spread across Carlow, Clare, Galway, Kildare, Longford, Offaly and Sligo counties.
Of the cases reported today:
- 20 are men and 22 are women
- 71% are under 45 years old
- 15 confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or close contacts of a confirmed case.
- 6 cases have been identified as community transmission
- 24 are in Dublin, 6 in Limerick, and the remaining 12 are in Carlow, Clare, Galway, Kildare, Longford, Offaly and Sligo.
The HSE is working to identify any contacts that patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

The latest county data for which figures are available, with statistics measured as of Friday, August 28, show 514 confirmed cases in Galway, representing just 1.8% of the national total.
