Manchester United are getting closer to signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, the PA news agency learned.
The 23-year-old helped the Amsterdam team reach the semi-finals of last year’s Champions League and has been linked to a variety of high-profile moves.
Ajax coach Erik ten Hag said there were news regarding Van de Beek’s future after the player was conspicuous by his absence from the team to Saturday’s friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Man Utd is understood to have made progress since then and is close to reaching an agreement with both the club and the player, although other reports claim that a fee of around £ 40 million has already been agreed.
Van de Beek would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing of the summer.
Manchester United have agreed to a fee with Ajax for Donny van de Beek. The agreement is around 40 million pounds sterling. Personal terms and a doctor to follow, but United is now confident that it will be done.
