Ballygunner claimed his seventh Waterford Back-to-back SHC title with a sweeping win over Passage at Walsh Park.

Three game points from Peter Hogan and 1-1 from Kevin Mahony in the 23rd minute helped the champions take a 1-13 to 0-05 lead at halftime.

The Gunners stretched their lead after the break, with Dessie Hutchinson and Pauric Mahony also prominent, and ultimately triumphed 1-23 to 0-09.

The Gunners’ 19th County crown brings them closer to the record of nine in a row held jointly by Mount Sion (1953-61) and Erin’s Own (1927-35) honor roll.

On the other end of the day, Mount Leinster Rangers claimed a third Carlow title in four attempts with a 3-21-0-12 win over Ballinkillen at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Two goals from Denis Murphy in the first 10 minutes set the tone for the day, with the 2014 All-Ireland finalists leading by 12 at halftime.

A late goal from Eddie Byrne was the icing on the cake for the south county club.

Borris-Ileigh’s Reign as Tipperary The SHC champions finished after losing a dramatic quarter-final on penalties to Drom-Inch.

There were three goals in injury time at the end of a crazy second half. The older JD Devaney put Borris five points up and apparently on track for victory, but they ended up requiring a point from Brendan Maher to force overtime after Seamus Callanan and David Butler scored two goals in three minutes.

Butler scored a second goal in the second period of extra time, but a point from Maher and Dan McCormack left the teams on track for penalties.

Borris missed three of his four penalties, Maher saw his penalty saved when Drom claimed a 3-1 victory on penalties.

Double club Loughmore is also in the semi-finals of Tipp SFC.

At Kenny Park, Liam Mellows almost held out to defeat Gort by the bare minimum – 2-19 to 1-21 – in the Galway SHC.

Renmore’s men had a six-point margin in the fourth quarter of the game, but it took two late releases from Tadhg Haran to get over the line.

Eventual winners were slow to get out of the blocks before a goal from Aonghus Callanan set them off.

Reigning Offaly the champions St Rynagh’s are back in the semifinals after a 2-19 to 1-08 victory over Ballinamere.
