The CORK City fire brigade controlled a large commercial fire near the Kinsale Road roundabout this afternoon.

A fire broke out shortly before 3 pm at Cork Builders Providers Ltd in West Link, Togher Industrial Estate.

Six units from the Cork City Fire Brigade responded to the incident after the alarm was raised around 2.56pm.

The fire was brought under control shortly after, according to the Cork City Fire Department.

Dark smoke had been seen billowing in the sky over the Kinsale Road roundabout around 3pm and many calls were made to the fire service as a result.

Local Area Labor Representative Peter Horgan was walking past the scene of the fire less than an hour ago.

He told The Echo that no flames were visible, but that smoke was coming from the back of the patio at Cork Builders Providers Ltd.

He said firefighters appeared to get the blaze under control fairly quickly as the smoke died down.

Horgan added that there were no major traffic delays in the area, with only a small number of drivers near the scene of the fire.
