Limitless West Brom defender Dara O’Shea has been added to the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of Thursday’s Nations League clash in Bulgaria, while Troy Parrott and James McCarthy are concerned about injuries.

The 21-year-old Dubliner, who was captain of the Under-21 team under now senior manager Stephen Kenny, helped the Baggies secure promotion to the Premier League this year.

“Dara has been through the ranks, from less than 15 years to the end,” Kenny said.

“He proved capable of playing all four (defensive) positions with West Brom last year. He really is a central midfielder, but he has played as a right back, left back.

“With an additional injury or two, strains and whatnot, we’ve given ourselves that extra coverage with the arrival of Dara.

“His ability to play all four positions is an advantage.”

Kenny also revealed that Troy Parrott was injured in Milwall’s 3-0 friendly win over Southend United, in which the loaned forward scored his second goal in two preseason appearances.

“He traveled this morning and will have a scan in the afternoon to see his range.

“He just stopped with a tight muscle. It’s a short space of time, so we’ll have to see what it’s like.”

Kenny said James McCarthy had taken a hit playing for Crystal Palace in the middle of the week and would be evaluated in Dublin today.

“I know James is really looking forward to coming back and playing for Ireland, it’s been a few years since he played.

“It will be a great addition to us.”
