RTE star Lottie Ryan has said it wasn’t about not supporting her mother after she found love with singer Don Mescall.

Morah dedicated her entire life to her five children after the tragic passing of her husband Gerry.

Lottie, the oldest of the siblings, added that everyone is delighted to see their mom so happy and how she is in such a great place since the romance began last year.

She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Any child wants their parents to be happy and once she is happy, we are happy. She is full of smiles and giggles right now, so we are delighted for her.”

Lottie reveals in next month’s RSVP magazine: “Mom is a happy person by nature and has always been there for us. You really deserve everything you get.

“He spent the last 10 years in particular dedicating his life to his children, so it’s about time he had some ‘me time.’ We are very happy that she does it and she is in such a good place ”.

Morah hosts a Sunday lunch every weekend where she and her children catch up at home. Lottie joked, “I can’t speak for her, but I’m sure she enjoyed the break from having to pack lunch every week.

“But she is not used to not being around us and, in the same way, we are not used to not being with her.

“We all live very close, which made everything weirder. My mother is not very tech savvy, so it took her a while to get into FaceTime. “Like Lottie and her siblings, Morah has kept their new relationship a secret.

Lottie explained: “Growing up, so much of our lives were public.

“You can get a little tired and what happens when you have something that you don’t want people to know? So it becomes very difficult to say ‘no’, you can’t really choose.

“We just have a policy of drawing a very clear line of what we do and we don’t argue and we stick to it. Otherwise things get murky. “

RTE aired a special documentary on Gerry Ryan to mark the 10th anniversary of his death in April. Unsurprisingly, it received a great response from viewers. Lottie said: “We saw it that night and I loved it.

“One thing that struck us was that there were a lot of stock footage that we had never seen before, especially the whole Beat on the Street, which was pretty good.”

“A lot of work was done and I am delighted that it has been so well received.”

Gerry was a rock star during the Beat on the Street and Lottie explained that it was lovely to see him so happy while performing.

She added: “I remember him talking about it, but seeing a bit of lip syncing with Bono.
in front of 20,000 people it was just amazing.

“You would never see anything like this these days, they were such different times.

“Looking at that, you could see how happy she was and in her element.”
