Gardaí is investigating after a man showed up at a Dublin hospital with apparent gunshot wounds last night.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and leg in North Dublin.

They have sealed two locations in the Darndale suburb on the north side.

Gardaí de Coolock was called to receive reports of a shooting around 9 p.m. last night.

When they arrived at the scene in Darndale, they found a burning moped in Primrose Grove and sealed two locations in the area.

But around this time, a man appeared at Beaumont Hospital and was shot twice.

He is of advanced adolescence and his condition is not believed to be life threatening.

A Garda forensic team must examine the sealed areas.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.

Local TD Aodhán Ó Riordáin said the shooting, the latest in a series of these incidents in the area, is “extremely concerning.”

“Another shooting and an extremely worrying development and we have had several of these incidents in the last period of time.”

“For the last year I have been calling for the establishment of a working group dedicated to crime.

“During the general election, the Minister of Justice said he would establish the working group to get to the root of these incidents.

“If we don’t examine why these incidents are occurring, they will simply continue.”

Ó Ríordáin said violent crime has not disappeared during the Covid-19 crisis.

“We need to see action on it now,” he said.

Communities should not have to live in fear of violence and parents should not have to worry that their children are not safe when they play outside their homes.

“Growing up children should not be conditioned to think that this type of violence is normal.

“We need to see a real commitment from the government on this before the situation gets out of control.”

Anyone with information is requested to call the Garolo station in Coolock at 01 666 4200 on the confidential line Garda 1800 666 111.
