The bank confirmed that more than 100 contractors working for the Bank of Ireland will not renew their contracts in the coming months as they expire.
Contractors are employed through the recruiting and outsourcing firm, CPL Resources, and work in customer service or “Direct Channel” roles for the bank.
78 of the workers are at a call center in Kilkenny, and the rest work from a center in Tallaght.
In a statement, the Bank of Ireland said the development was a consequence of the Covid-19 impact.
“Before the start of the current pandemic, dropout levels on direct channels were at a level where we could often offer permanent positions with the Bank of Ireland to hire staff at the end of their contract period,” he said.
“However, since Covid, the number of vacancies arising within the business has decreased significantly,” he added.
“This development, coupled with the expected efficiencies in our processes, unfortunately means that various contractual positions will end from the end of June 2020 to January 2021.”
It is understood that the bank communicated the changes to the workers yesterday and supports have been established through the CPL to help them.
These include human resource clinics and workshops to be held in the coming days.
The development will not affect other permanent staff employed in contact centers by the Bank of Ireland.
