A girl was killed today after a farm accident in the Malin area of ​​Inishowen, Co Donegal.

Authorities stated that the boy, who was reportedly 11 years old, was dead at the scene after the accident that occurred around 5.20 p.m. from today.

Her body was taken to the Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Co Derry.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) told the Irish Sun that they had launched an investigation into the death.

Police in nearby Carndonagh are also investigating how he killed the boy.

Gardai said they had preserved the scene for their investigation.

In a statement, the police said: “Gardaí in Carndonagh is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a girl after an accident on a farm in the Malin area, Inishowen, Co. Donegal.

“The incident occurred at approximately 5.20 p.m. this afternoon, May 13, 2020.

“The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was transferred to the Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Co. Derry.

“The scene is currently preserved for a full technical examination and the local coroner has been notified.

“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and investigations are continuing.”

Cllr Albert Doherty said: “I convey my condolences to the family and their relatives, friends.

“It is just heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the family and what they have to go through now.

“I ask everyone to support in the area where they live.”

Nicholas Crossan also conveyed his condolences to the family, adding: “It is a sad tragedy.”
