The Department of Education has approved plans for a € 10 million extension to St. Brogan’s College in Bandon.
Currently, the school serves 600 students and, according to plans, may provide education for an additional 400 students.
As part of the plans, more than 30 new special education classrooms and facilities will be delivered.
This will include 19 general classrooms, new science labs, art rooms, a new staff room, and dining facilities.
According to the Cork Board of Education and Training (Cork ETB), the project will be delivered in stages to meet enrollment growth, and priority will be given to delivering specialized rooms in the first phase of development.
Cork ETB CEO Denis Leamy said development is great news for Bandon.
“This is an extremely positive development in serving the educational needs of Bandon and its interior. This will further enhance the educational experience for the 600, and eventually 1,000, students attending St. Brogan’s College and future generations. I am particularly excited for the students, parents and staff at St. Brogan’s College, “he said.
St. Brogan’s College principal Helen Cadogan said they are delighted that the Department of Education and Skills has approved St. Brogan’s College for the major extension.
“The school is indebted to the Board of Directors and Cork ETB for their continued support in seeking this extension. We are also deeply grateful to the parents who support us, to our wonderful students and to our hard working, dedicated and caring staff, and we look forward to providing them with the best facilities, ”he said.
The acquisition process for the design team appointment will begin in the coming weeks.
