A mother and child died in a collision between a quad and a tractor yesterday afternoon.
Another young man has been left fighting for life after the terrible crash in Antrim on Tuesday.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that the couple killed in Ballycastle is mother and daughter.
He is believed to be over 30 years old. The age of the children involved is unknown.
The other girl, believed to be another daughter, was airlifted to Royal Victoria Hospital in a critical condition.
The mother is believed to be driving the quad, which collided with a tractor on the Causeway coastal route.
The accident is said to have occurred at the entrance to his family farm on the outskirts of the city.
The Telegraph reports that the young mother left the farm with her children before the terrible attack.
North Antrim MLA Jim Allister said: “Tonight’s reports of a double family death in a traffic accident in the north of my constituency are distressing.
“While more details are awaited, it is clear that a local family has been plunged into deep mourning.”
And Sinn Féin Councilwoman Cara McShane said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragic accident, compounded at this time by the surreal times in which we live with the coronavirus pandemic.
“In such a quiet area, the air was almost pierced by the sound of sirens and flashing blue lights from the emergency services, so it was soon learned that there had been a tragic accident.”
A NIAS spokesman said: “NIAS dispatched two rapid response paramedics, three emergency teams, a doctor and two ambulance officers to the incident. The PSNI and the Coast Guard also assisted in the incident.
“After initial assessment and treatment at the scene, a patient was initially transported to Causeway Hospital before being flown to Belfast by Coastguard helicopter with HEMS equipment on board.”
