A Cork pensioner who made international fame after calling a bunch of armed raiders “cowards” as I’ve fought them off in a bookies has sadly died.
Glanmire has been in mourning this week after hero Dennis O’Connor collapsed following a stroll on Sunday evening.
Emergency services rushed to his home and he was quickly taken to the CUH but despite all their great efforts the much-loved Corkman passed away.
Dennis was hugely respected around the area and in 2018 he made international headlines after he fought off three armed men who tried to storm his local bookies.
The tough pensioner called the thug-trio all cowards despite having a gun pointing at his head, and along with Bar One manager Tim Murphy the pair drove them back out of the shop.
The popular grandad’s family were full of praise for the emergency service team and CUH staff who battled hard to try save him after the collapse.A
Sadly his time has come and his funeral will be livestreamed today at 2pm in The Church of The Sacred Heart in Kiskeam – those who would like to tune in can do so clicking here.
