THREE people have been arrested after € 1.1 million in drugs and € 550,000 in cash were seized in a major operation spanning Louth, Meath, Wexford and Dublin.

Yesterday, around 6 p.m., members of the Garda National Office of Drugs and Organized Crime intercepted several vehicles in the Donore Road and North Road areas of Drogheda, Co Louth.

Two men, ages 50 and 39, and a woman, age 43, were arrested on suspicion of improving an organized crime gang’s ability to commit a serious crime.

Several follow-up searches were conducted in Meath, Dublin, Louth and Wexford.

An amount of cash, estimated to be over € 550,000, most of which was vacuum packed, was located and confiscated along with substances that are considered cocaine and illegal prescription drugs, with an estimated total value of more than € 1.1 millions.

In addition, three vehicles, six high-value watches, two encrypted communications devices, and two signal blocking devices were also seized.

HUGE FIND

The three people are currently detained at Garda stations in Dublin.

A spokesperson said: “In the course of ongoing investigations targeting serious and organized crime, involving criminals operating in the Dublin, East and Northwest metropolitan regions, at approximately 6 pm on Monday, May 11, 2020, Garda National Drugs & Organized Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) personnel intercepted several vehicles that were observed in the Donore Road and North Road areas of Drogheda, Co Louth.

“Two men, ages 50 and 39, and a woman, 43, were arrested on suspicion of improving the ability of an organized crime gang to commit a serious crime, contrary to the provisions of section 72 of the Justice Act 2006 criminal.

“All three people are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act of 2007 at Garda stations in Dublin.

“Several follow-up searches were conducted in Meath, Dublin, Louth and Wexford counties.

“In the course of this operation, a considerable amount of cash, estimated to be over € 550,000, most of which was vacuum packed, was located and confiscated along with substances that are considered cocaine and illegal drugs, with an estimated total on the street value greater than € 1.1 million.

“The value is estimated and is subject to confirmation, after completing the forensic examination of the seized substances.

“Three vehicles, six high-value watches, two encrypted communications devices and two signal blocking devices were also seized. Investigations are ongoing.
