Virgil van Dijk explains that he had an “instant feeling” when making the “surreal” move to Liverpool in 2018.

The Dutch international joined Liverpool from Southampton 28 months ago in a £ 75 million deal that made him the most expensive defender in world football at the time.

As Van dijkWith the arrival, Liverpool’s defense has been the best in the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp’s men winning the Champions League and on the verge of lifting the Premier League title this period.

OPINION: Players have all the cards … but how will they use them?

“It was surreal for me to have to make a decision where to go at the time. The instant sensation was there with Liverpool and they ticked most of my boxes, “Van Dijk told Jamie Redknapp in Sky Sports.

“When I went to Celtic I didn’t realize how big they were at the time, but I had a feeling before I joined Liverpool how great Liverpool really was.”

“You see all their games, I played there twice before I joined them, and in the course of time before signing, I met so many people, Liverpool fans, who would say, ‘I hope you sign for us.’

“It was special, and when things ended and you started playing, my debut against Everton was something I will never forget.”

“How things went in the end; starting in the winter, reaching the Champions League final, the disappointment of losing it, but then winning the following year, very close to winning the Premier League and obviously we are now in a very fortunate position to be able to break the line when things start moving again.

“We are making great progress as a team and I have definitely made great progress as well.”
