The Government has been urged to consider reopening hairdressers and barbers with strict guidelines for social distancing.
Fianna Fail claims that the government’s decision to keep hairdressers and hairdressers closed until July 20 is leading to a boom in black market haircuts performed without safety guidelines.

The party urges the government to cut the reopening date for hairdressers and to follow other countries such as Denmark, France and Spain that have reopened points of sale with new health guidelines.
Party business spokesman Robert Troy said: “Many people are eager to have to wait another three months for a professional to cut their hair.
“All the towns and cities of the country have a series of hairdressing businesses, which provide an essential service to citizens.
“After the publication of the Roadmap for the reopening of society and businesses, salons and barbers should remain closed until July 20, with the clear possibility that some of these businesses will close permanently.
“I have raised parliamentary questions on this issue and I am asking Minister Humphreys to urgently review the government decision made and for the hairdressing sector to reopen earlier than anticipated in the plan released under appropriate security measures.
“Given that countries like Denmark, France, Spain and Germany are allowing their hairdressers to reopen under strict guidelines this month, why can’t Ireland do the same?
“Another unintended consequence of hairdressers remaining closed until July is the likely emergence of black market activity, which is unlikely to take place under security guidelines.”
