A 16-year-old boy appeared before the Dublin Children’s Court tonight on the murder of a 20-year-old man in the city on Wednesday night.

Glen Osbourne of Taafe Place in Ballybough died after being stabbed in the upper body Wednesday night in the internal parking lot at the Ballybough House apartment complex.

The teenager was given free legal aid and detained for a week.

He was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning and interrogated for the past two days at Mountjoy Garda Station.

After consultation with the Director of the Prosecutor’s Office, the boy was charged this afternoon with the murder of Mr. Osbourne.

Detective Sgt. Ken Hoare gave evidence of arrest, prosecution, and caution.

He told the court that he arrested the boy at 4:38 pm at Mountjoy Garda Station and did not respond when he was charged in the presence of his mother.

Defense attorney Brian Keenan told the court that the boy was 16 years old and facing a murder charge, the most serious charge and that he had serious concerns about the boy’s mental health.

Judge Brendan Toal recommended that the boy be evaluated at the Oberstown Detention Center and that the report be shared with the defense.

The judge said he had no jurisdiction to release the boy on bail, but granted him free legal aid and detained him from appearing again in Children’s Court next week.

The boy’s mother, grandparents, and aunt were in court for the brief hearing and hugged the boy before they took him away.
