A new initiative aims to deliver free food packages to thousands of disadvantaged families across Dublin to reduce the financial burden on parents during the shutdown.
Thousands of struggling families will benefit from the Good Grub initiative, which was created two weeks ago in collaboration with the Ballymun children’s charity The Aisling Project.
The initiative was founded by Denis O’Reilly, who runs a corporate social responsibility event business.
In a test conducted two weeks ago, 1,000 packages were delivered to families of children at 10 DEIS schools in North Dublin.

Depression increases as confinement leaves many feeling lonely and anxious
Loneliness, anxiety and depression are troubling side effects of a closed nation.
The first major snapshot of how we have faced reveals that more than four in 10 Irish adults (41pc) feel lonely.
The researchers also found that people who have lost income are 60% more likely to meet the diagnosis of depression or anxiety.
Additionally, people who had a confirmed or suspected Covid-19 infection were more than four times more likely than someone who had not experienced it to meet the criteria for depression or anxiety.

L’Oreal Ireland to donate 70,000 hand hygiene and disinfectant products to frontline staff, pharmacies and stores
A cosmetics company will donate 70,000 hand hygiene and disinfectant products to front-line staff, as well as pharmacies and stores across the country.
Cosmetic giant L’Oréal Ireland will donate 40,000 hygiene and care products to front-line healthcare workers, including body care products, hand creams, conditioners, shampoos, and skin care products.
An additional 10,000 hand sanitizers manufactured by La Roche Posay will be distributed to healthcare personnel and donate 27,000 bottles of Garnier hand sanitizers to independent Boots and Dunne Stores pharmacies and retailers across the country.
In an attempt to ease financial pressure, the L’Oréal group’s Irish branch has frozen payments for small customers in its distribution network, including beauty salons. Payment terms for small providers have also been reduced.
L’Oréal, UK and Ireland CEO Vismay Sharma said the company has a “strong sense of responsibility”.
“We feel a strong sense of responsibility to support relief efforts for the most vulnerable during this unprecedented crisis,” he said.
“Frontline healthcare workers and retail staff are doing an amazing job of caring for the sick and providing essential products and services to communities. We are honored to be able to provide key hand sanitizers and hygiene products for them. ”

Two health workers at the same hospital died of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
The staff at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, a man and a woman, were middle-aged and working until sick.
The 50-year-old woman died in hospital on Wednesday and the 40-year-old man died at home on Tuesday.
Hospital staff are understood to be shocked by the deaths.

Trump says the United States is investigating whether the coronavirus comes from the Wuhan laboratory
United States President Donald Trump said Wednesday that his government is trying to determine if the coronavirus emanated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Beijing “needs to clarify” what they know.
The source of the virus remains a mystery. General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Tuesday that United States intelligence indicates that the coronavirus probably occurred naturally, rather than being created in a laboratory in China, but is by no means certain.
Fox News reported Wednesday that the virus originated in a Wuhan laboratory not as a biological weapon, but as part of China’s effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States.
Psychiatric care center loses a third of the population after eight Covid-19 deaths
Eight people died of coronavirus at a residential care facility for elderly people with psychiatric illness over the holiday weekend.
The tragic deaths meant that more than a third of care center patients died from the deadly virus over the Easter weekend.
Those who died from the virus were between 66 and 84 years old.
In total, nine people died at the HSE residential care center last weekend, but eight were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.
The remaining 17 patients in the psychiatric care center are being treated as if they have the virus, regardless of test results or symptoms. They will have their conditions reviewed by medical consultants.
