It is a very special Easter Sunday for a small community in West Kerry, where someone has left € 500 at the local store to buy an Easter egg for each child in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh parish.
The kind donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, also left instructions at the O’Connor store in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh to give Easter eggs to the elderly and the vulnerable cocoon in the parish.
Nikki and Colm O’Connor, who run the store in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, said they were ‘stunned’ when the person entered and made the request.
“A customer we know, who lives locally, came into the store and said he wanted to give each child and each person living on their own an Easter egg because of the way things are now. People are isolated and alone She said she wanted to smile at people on Easter Sunday.
But she said she wanted to remain strictly anonymous and didn’t want any credit for it. There are only about 500 people living in our parish, so there is talk of the place, “said Nikki O’Connor.
With the help of the neighbors, more than 250 Easter eggs are distributed in the parish. A volunteer dressed in a panda costume is surprising young and old at its doorstep.
The kind and unexpected visit surprised the Dalby family.
“It is magical. The gesture of simply walking into a store and wanting to buy eggs for the children and the vulnerable in our community is truly special. It is a tremendous boost for everyone in the parish as we try to deal with this blockade. It is so considerate and we have no idea who is behind it. ” Douglas Dalby said.
In the mid-1970s and alone, Mary Uí Chatháin said that seeing the panda with an Easter egg on her doorstep raised her heart.
“I am alone, but my son and daughter-in-law help me deliver messages and that. It is a wonderful thing for people like me. It is good to know that someone is still thinking of you when they are cornered. It is a really wonderful gesture,” said the lady. Uí Chatháín.
