The next Battlefield game will arrive in 2021, developer DICE confirmed. In a statement to IGN, the Swedish studio said that, with the support of Star Wars: Battlefront II and Battlefield V, it is “focused on the future of Battlefield” for a new game to be released in 2021.
This new Battlefield game was announced in October 2019, at which time Electronic Arts publisher said the game would launch in the company’s fiscal year 2022, which runs from April 2021 to March 2022. We now know of a more specific launch period, sometime in 2021.
EA has not shared any specific details about the new Battlefield game, but scoffed that the title “will focus on the new innovation that will be enabled by next-generation platforms.”
By the time this new Battlefield game launches in 2021, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be on the market, so you can probably expect it to launch on those consoles, as well as on PC.
EA said it will launch this new Battlefield game in 2021 instead of 2020, when the new consoles are released, to take advantage of its larger install base. “Taking out the battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is quite small, it really doesn’t do justice to the potential of the title, and that’s part of our engine to move the title to Prosecutor 22, “EA management said.
DICE has studios in Stockholm, Sweden and Los Angeles, California. The DICE LA studio is now headed by Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella as part of the expanded responsibilities of his recent promotion.
Battlefield V of 2018 took place in World War II, while Battlefield 1 of 2016 was established during World War I. The series has not had a modern release since 2015’s Battlefield Hardline.
