April 28 (Reuters) – Mobile game maker Scopely said Tuesday that it acquired the co-creator of its popular word game “Scrabble Go,” in a bid to expand its game portfolio that includes titles like “Looney Tunes World of Mayhem. “and” The Walking Dead: Road to Survival “.
The financial terms of the Los Angeles-based acquisition of PierPlay were not disclosed by Scopely, which also purchased FoxNext Games from Walt Disney Co, the maker of “Marvel Strike Force,” in January.
Scrabble Go, whose popularity skyrocketed in launch month, is the mobile version of the iconic board game where two or more players match tiles or letters to form words and earn points.
The game, which grew out of a partnership with toy makers Mattel Inc and Hasbro Inc, is currently seeing 2.5 million daily active users with an average playing time of 100 minutes, Scopely said.
Since its release on March 5, “Scrabble Go” has been downloaded more than 10 million times worldwide and has collected more than $ 1.2 million in user fees, according to data from analyst firm Apptopia.
Video game sales and downloads have witnessed an increase in the past two months as a result of coronavirus-targeted blockades and home protection worldwide.
Electronic Arts has been home to the previous mobile version of the word game, which will be available until June 5, Scopely previously said in a blog post here.
