There have been 902 new cases of coronavirus in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

The tests were carried out on 5,836 people, which means that just over 1 in 6 of those who are tested are positive.

Deaths are not recorded on weekends, so the official Health Department number remains at 587.

The figure of 902 is 178 less than the daily record total registered yesterday, but based on the size of the population it is equivalent to more than 2,300 cases in the Republic.

There are 134 confirmed Covid-19 patients in the hospital, with 19 in intensive care units. Eleven of these patients are on ventilators.

The 7-day infection rate per 100,000 people in Northern Ireland is 291.

The rate in the worst area, Derry and Strabane, is now 872.1.

The next worst area is Belfast where the 7 day rate is 407.1
