There has been a further drop in the number of people admitted to intensive care with Covid-19.
72 patients are being treated in the ICU today, compared to 99 this day last week.
The death toll in the Republic is now 1,429.
Professor Catherine Motherway, president of the Intensive Care Society, says any lifting of restrictions carries risk.
Professor Motherway says: “We are all concerned that we could have a second wave once the restrictions are eased and we will all be watching what is happening in other countries to see what happens there.”
“And, of course, people have to remember that the second wave in terms of hospital admissions will probably be three weeks later, in terms of admission of care it will be four or five weeks later. Therefore, we must be very slow.” .
Previously, the chief physician, Dr. Tony Holohan, said that most deaths continue to occur among older people.
Of the total deaths, 956 occurred in the category of over 80 years.
