54 more deaths, 1,006 new cases

The Department of Health has been notified of 54 more deaths of people with Covid-19 and 1,006 additional cases.

Of the deaths reported today, 45 occurred in February, 5 occurred in January, and 4 are still under investigation.

The average age of those who died was 86 years and the age range was 48-104 years.

The total number of Covid-19 related deaths here is 3,794.

The number of people in the ICU was reduced from nine to 173.

Today’s figures showed that the number of Covid-19 patients in the hospital rose slightly to 1,032, compared to 1,012 last night.

Of the cases reported today, 476 are men and 524 are women, with 65% of those under 45 years of age.

The average age is 35 years.

Dublin has 516 of the cases reported today, there were 63 in Cork, 46 in Galway, 43 in Meath, 36 in Louth and the remaining 302 cases are spread across all other counties.

As of Sunday, 153,654 first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered.

Today’s vaccine figures also show that 86,833 second doses have been administered, an increase from 2,489 the day before.

St James’s Hospital in Dublin cared for 95 Covid-19 patients, the most of any hospital in the country.

Elsewhere in the capital, Dublin’s Mater Hospital had 91 patients, while Connolly had 72.

In Northern Ireland, four more deaths of people with Covid-19 were reported today, bringing the official death toll there to 1,957. In addition, 336 new cases were confirmed from tests in 2,058 people.

There are 544 confirmed coronavirus patients in the hospital, with 61 in the ICU, 57 of whom are on ventilators.

The seven-day average infection rate per 100,000 in Northern Ireland is 138.0, the lowest since December 1. The highest rate remains Mid Ulster at 244.0, while the lowest is Fermanagh and Omagh at 71.9.
