A woman died after a suspected hit-and-run in Kildare on Monday night.

The terror incident occurred shortly after 8 pm in Newbridge, when the Gardai were called in to discover a woman with serious injuries.

The woman, who was in her 40s, was found on Thomas Street, where she is believed to have been struck by a vehicle.

She was rushed to Naas General Hospital, but tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Since then the local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination has been arranged. The outcome of this will determine the course of the investigation.

Gardai is asking for any witnesses who were in the area at the time to come forward, or anyone who may have dash cam footage.

A spokesperson said: “The scene is being preserved for a full forensic and technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.”

“There are local traffic diversions. The result of an autopsy will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”

“Anyone who witnessed this incident or with camera footage (including dash cam) of the area at that time is requested to contact the Investigative Gardaí.

“Anyone with information should contact the Newbridge Garda station 045-431212 or the confidential Garda line 1800 666 111.”
