30-year-old man dies after being hit by car in Co Roscommon

A man died after being hit by a car in Co Roscommon in the early hours of the morning.

The tragic incident occurred on the N5 highway around 5 am, when a car collided with the male pedestrian near the town of Strokestown.

The pedestrian, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital, where it is understood that his injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardai is asking for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: “The scene remains closed and Garda collision forensic investigators will examine the crash site this morning.”

“The local coroner has been notified. Traffic detours on the route are expected to remain for the next few hours.

“Gardaí is appealing to witnesses and also road users with camera footage (including dash cam) of the route at the time of the collision to come forward.

“Anyone with information should contact the Castlerea Garda station at (094) 962 1630 or the confidential Garda line 1800 666 111.”
