2 arrested after firearm and ammunition recovered in Belfast

Detectives investigating INLA crime have arrested two men after recovering a firearm and ammunition in West Belfast.

A vehicle was stopped in the Falls Road area of ​​Belfast shortly after 9.20pm last night following a proactive police operation.

A subsequent search of a property in the Whiterock area of ​​West Belfast resulted in the seizures, which have been brought up for further forensic examination.

Two men ages 35 and 34 were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms and ammunition in suspicious circumstances. Both remain in police custody.

A PSNI detective inspector said: “The seizure of this firearm and ammunition has made the West Belfast community, and indeed the wider community, a safer place after this investigation.

“The Task Force against Paramilitary Crime will continue to listen to the community and act based on the information they provide.

“This result is a testament to our continued commitment to target the activities of criminals identified as paramilitaries and would ask anyone with any information related to criminal activity to contact the police.”
