15,000 counterfeit electronic products seized in Dublin

Gardaí has ​​seized more than 15,000 counterfeit electronic products that it believes were destined for the Christmas market.

The loot includes game console controllers, headsets, USB plugs, phone chargers, cell phones, and hard drives.

The goods were found after searches at two locations in Dublin.

Branded packaging in the name of renowned companies such as Sony and Apple was also seized for 10,000 of the products, as well as documentation.

The Garda’s Intellectual Property Crimes Unit says fake electronic products are estimated to be worth more than 300,000 euros.

They were discovered after searches at two locations, a home and a business in Dublin yesterday.

The loot includes game console controllers, mobile phones and hard drives.

The searches were carried out as part of Operation Bannister, created to target criminal gangs involved in the sale of substandard counterfeit electronic products.

Investigations continue and have involved taking statements from relevant potential witnesses.

Gardaí says more searches and arrests are expected.

Gardaí also says they are working with Europol and 20 other countries investigating the international dimension of this crime, including the seizure of fake Covid-19 medical equipment and counterfeit products hidden behind online deals.
