12-year-old girl killed in Ballymena house fire

A 12-year-old girl died in a house fire in Co Antrim.

The victim was from the Ballykeel area of ​​Ballymena.

Paramedics said they were called to the property on Staffa Drive at the estate around 5.50 p.m. Wednesday night.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) added that one person was taken to Antrim Area Hospital for treatment after the fire.

The fire service said three appliances attended.

Mervyn Storey, a member of the Stormont Unionist Democratic Assembly, said: “This is truly a tragedy.

“No one can begin to imagine the pain the family is going through and they will need all the support and comfort that the local community and elsewhere can provide.”

Jim Allister, a member of the Traditional Unionist Voice assembly, said the farm was in pain.

Hearing the death of this young woman now is devastating.

“The community’s rescue efforts were commendable but sadly in vain with regard to the child.”
