The Health Service Executive (HSE) will publish a guide for meat processing plants to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

There are now 10 groups in factories across the country, representing 566 cases.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the Republic is now 1,429, after 27 other people with the disease died.

Professor Catherine Motherway, president of the Intensive Care Society, says that a lot must happen before the restrictions are eased.

Professor Motherway says: “We need to know that our health system can cope, can find cases, isolate cases and treat them.

“We need to minimize the risks of outbreaks and we must make sure that when people enter the country we can manage that risk.”

“And last but not least, that our entire community continues to observe health care measures that we consider appropriate.”

Yesterday, the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) met to consider priority tests for meat factories where cases have been detected.

NPHET is also considering performing priority tests on each resident in direct disposition for Covid-19.
