The iPhone 12 is getting an incredible upgrade to its video capabilities, if a new leak is created.
That feature is the ability to record in 4K at 120fps or 240fps. The claim comes from YouTuber EverythingApplePro, based on the findings of the Max Weinbach filter within the beta version of Apple’s recently released iOS 14. Weinbach’s insider confirmation at Apple says these are actually on hand to test before the iPhone 12 is released around September of this year.
Currently, the iPhone 11 series and iPhone SE (2020) can record 4K at a maximum of 60fps and 1080p at 240fps. This means that the new video features are likely tied to the more powerful Bionic A14 processor expected to debut on the iPhone 12.
These 4K video features are expected to be exclusive to the higher spec iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models, rather than the basic iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Max.
This series of four models is the first for Apple, as well as the variation in sizes. The series will start at 5.4 inches for the iPhone 12, go up to 6.1 inches for the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro, and will be limited to 6.7 inches for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The design is believed to feature a notch similar to that of the iPhone 11 series, albeit smaller, and with flat rather than curved sides, evoking the iPhone 5S and earlier iPhones with straight sides.
Standard iPhones are likely to come with a combination of ultra-wide and main-lens camera, much like the iPhone 11. The iPhone 12 Pros will get those two cameras plus a telephoto and LiDAR depth sensor. The LiDAR camera, which first appeared on iPad Pro (2020), is the first time for iPhones, and will hopefully make Apple’s excellent special effects and AR apps work even better.
Before that, we are slowly learning more about Apple’s new mobile operating system, iOS 14, thanks to the recently released beta version. The beta version contains the latest and greatest Apple software features, such as customizable widgets, a new type of input called Back Tap, and other improvements that could make iPhone 12 an even bigger update when it launches this fall.
