We get an early glimpse of the display on the iPhone 12 thanks to an online leak, and it looks a lot like the screens on the latest iPhones. That’s bad news if you hope Apple would shrink the notch on their upcoming phones.
The derived image comes from Mr. White, a Twitter user who has a habit of posting photos of various iPhone components, such as the upcoming A14 Bionic processor. That tweet, showing what looks like an iPhone 12 panel, has since disappeared from Twitter, but MacRumors captured it before it disappeared.
IN following tweet by Mr. White shows the panel in sharper detail, and this time the leaker notes that the new panel sports the “same Face ID size.”

If so, that would disappoint people who have stuck to the rumor that Apple would report the various notch on their phones, as it would require less space to house the sensors and cameras that the Face IPhone ID Image Recognition System Just a few days ago, leaker Jon Prosser said the move to a smaller notch was “mostly confirmed.”
It’s no secret that Apple would eventually like to reduce and perhaps avoid the notch on their smartphones. Reports from last year suggested that future Apple smartphones would not pick up a notch, although that would not happen until 2021.
It is safe to say that the notch of the iPhone divides the opinion. First introduced with the iPhone X in 2017, the notch gives Apple phones a distinctive look that Android device manufacturers have almost copied. The notch also supports Face ID, which gives Apple an edge over other devices with its secure face-locking feature, so as not to spoil fun messaging capabilities with animoji.
But the notch of the iPhone means that Apple phones still have a bit of an edge bulging in the display. You just have to look at the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to see the benefits of uninterrupted display real estate.
As more Android phone makers adopt minimal rings for their phones, Apple may feel pressured to do the same. Whether that is already starting to happen with the iPhone 12, however, remains very much in the air.
