With the release of iOS 14 in September, Google’s key apps were updated to support the latest platform features. After adding the default default email app support, Gmail now has the iOS home screen widget. Google is also publishing how Chrome on the iPad supports opening multiple windows.
Now, you can easily stay on top of your emails by adding the Gmail widget to your home screen.
Rolling on version 6.0.201101 today, there is a single 4 × 2 Gmail widget that starts with the “Mail in Search” bar that opens the app in the appropriate field when tapped The new workspace icon is at the top left, while the other side is your profile avatar.
Below is a “compose” shortcut that slides the keyboard for instant text entry. The last aspect of Gmail for the iOS widget is the unreadable count for those who don’t like badges on the home screen icon.
Meanwhile, Chrome 87 for iOS is rolling out today. On the other hand, it introduces Apple Plus Silicon support and the new Big Sur dock icon. There is also the benefit of speed improvement and battery life.
For the iPad, the release notes highlight how “now you can have multiple Windows windows at once.” The “Open in new window” option that appears when holding on to a link is already live in version 86 of the browser, but Google is only announcing it. This is similar to the course with Google Updates on iOS. The other two additions include:
- A new feature in settings called Safety Check, allows you to check if you are on the latest version of Chrome, whether you have Safe Browsing enabled, whether you have any compromised passwords, and so, how to fix it .
- Auto fill is now more secure. To fill out your passwords automatically, sign in again with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
