ATLANTA (WKOW) – Curious about COVID-19 risk in your county?

Georgia Tech has launched an interactive dashboard showing the possibility of coming into contact with someone with the virus when attending an event, given the size and location of the event. Users can adjust the group size from 10 to 10,000 people.

A new feature has the ability to calculate the risk at the county level of attending an event with someone actively infected with Coronavirus (Covid-19).

“We have developed an interactive county-level map of the risk that one or more people may have Covid-19 at events of different sizes,” said Joshua Weitz, a professor at the College of Biological Sciences and founding director of the Georgia Tech doctorate. . in the Quantitative Biosciences program. “The question of understanding the risks associated with the meetings is even more relevant as many types of companies, including sports and universities, are considering how to re-open safely.”

The control panel explains the widespread gaps in testing in the US to detect coronavirus, which can silently spread through people who show mild symptoms or no symptoms of disease.

“Precisely due to insufficient evidence and the risk of exposure and infection, these risk calculations provide further support for the continuing need for social distancing and protective measures. Such precautions are still necessary even in small events, given the large number of cases in circulation, “says the board’s website.
