Intel-based iMac update to launch next week, filtering say

Leakers on Twitter claim that a new Intel-based iMac could be unveiled this week, but without the radical design change that has been anticipated pending the introduction of Apple Silicon systems.

A couple of tweets that appeared Saturday made claims about Apple’s impending launch strategy, specifically about its iMac lineup. While there have been buzz around Apple’s Mac range, with debate largely over future Apple Silicon-based products, Intel-based Macs are still on the way during this two-year transition period.

A tweet from the @Soybeys filter first reported by 9to5Mac He claims that a new Intel iMac “could be released this week,” with an additional suggestion that sources announce Monday. If true, this would indicate that Apple is preparing a specification boost for the range, rather than making design modifications.

A second filter, @Jioriku, emphasizes this by stating that “the iMac redesign will not come for this tenth generation Intel update. They are saving it for their own silicon.”

The icons discovered in an alleged version of iOS 14 in June suggested that Apple was redesigning the iMac with a design language similar to an iPad Pro, using thinner bezels. It also seems plausible that Apple is expecting a major change in the iMac’s internal components for the introduction of a redesigned product, which lends itself to the design used with Apple Silicon.

While no Twitter account is known to have a reliable track record at the moment, as both were created in 2020 and have not risen to a level of fame for their revelations, there may be something to their remarks. A tweet from July 19 from prominent filtering @ L0vetodream suggested that “some products are ready to ship,” which may be considered vague, but it certainly lends some credibility to a product launch.

A DigiTimes The mid-June report also claimed that new iMac and iPad models would be on the way sometime in the second half of 2020.
