Instagram brings back classic icons to celebrate its tenth birthday

Instagram launched ten years ago today: The photo-sharing app first hit the App Store on October, 2010, just months after the release of the iPhone 4. Its home screen icon.

Available icons include a classic Polaroid-style camera design that has been in use for over five years. There are also themed variations on the current logo, including Pride rainbow colors and monochrome options. The app update includes another feature: a private map and a collection of your stories from the past three years.

To access new icons, go to the app’s settings and swipe long on the screen to reveal some emoji. Once you’ve made enough changes, the icons will be unlocked and you’ll see an Instagram message.

Here’s an example of how it works:

Signs Easter Eggs still seem to be in the process of being rolled out – I’ve got it working on a few phones, but some don’t have it yet.

It looks like icons will only be available during October October. Instagram’s message reads, “This month we’re inviting you to change your app icon to your favorites,” so don’t join anymore.
